Cook Time 45 minutes
Total Time 1 hour 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ sticks unsalted butter
  • 2 ¼ cups packed light brown sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • ¾ cup chopped nuts (I used pecans and walnuts), toasted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup toffee pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350oF. Grease an 8-inch square baking pan and line the bottom and sides with parchment paper. Grease the parchment and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the brown sugar and stir until completely melted. Set aside to cool for 5 minutes.
  3. Whisk together the flour, baking powder and salt in a medium bowl.
  4. Add the eggs, one at a time, into the cooled sugar-butter mixture. Whisk to combine. Stir in the vanilla.
  5. Add to the flour mixture and stir until combined.
  6. Fold in the toffee and toasted nuts into the batter. The batter will be thick.
  7. Spread the batter into the prepared pan and bake until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. About 30-45 minutes.
  8. Let cool 15 minutes in the pan and lift out of the pan and cut into pieces.
