In reply to Donna. Hi Donna, no you are not missing anything. You can use 2 or 3 pans depending on the size of the pans you use. For 6-inch pans, use three. For 8-inch pans, use two.

I noted in the instructions you wrote that 3 pans are used for recipe however the photo of the finished cake is only 2 layers. Am I missing something in the recipe?

Hi, I know Im a bit late to the party here, but I just made this cake and it was a hit! Many, many compliments! Then, I got to wondering…would this be workable if I substituted apples for the pears? Has anyone tried that? TIA!

In reply to Dorothy Kennedy. Hi Dorothy, yes you can make the syrup while the cake bakes. I just wrote it as such to help others who can't multitask. The honey and butter get used in the "Honey Caramel" step of the instructions. It is right before you make the frosting.

Hi, it smells great. But I am wondering if one makes the syrup while the cake cooks and not while it cools. Also, when does the honey and butter mixture get used? I don’t see it in the instructions. Do you put it in the frosting?
